Squishing your day

This is the “where did my day go?” situation. Usually eastbound. Usually harder. This is where structure pays off.

What it feels like

You arrive with a lot of pressure from sleep debt and timezone jump at the same time. If you over-sleep at the wrong moment, bedtime can slip and compound the problem.

Simple squishing playbook

  1. Protect first local bedtime whenever possible.
  2. Use controlled sleep on long-haul routes rather than all-or-nothing plans.
  3. Avoid bright light too late if you are trying to advance bedtime.
  4. Keep wake time consistent across first couple of days.

Common failure mode

Going full sleep on the flight, arriving in the evening, then being fully awake at local bedtime and stuck in the early-morning wake-up loop.
